Colombia has perhaps been a forgotten country for almost 50 years. Very few people had the Country on their bucket list.
In fact, all of South America is still rather remote. There was a time when getting a traveller to his chosen South American destination was not easy. Travellers to the Continent actually had to adjust their itineraries to available flights!
Life is a lot easier these days. One can travel to the chosen South American country on most days of the week. Sometimes, however, you can still be in a situation where you may be able to enter the country of your choice but find no immediate air connection to your destination.
The People of Colombia
The people of Colombia are the Country’s greatest gift to the world. They are warm, friendly and hospitable. The old-world charm of wishing even strangers on the street, “Good Morning,” still exists in Colombia. Naturally friendly Colombians love to chat with people from other countries. They love tourists. It is quite a heartwarming change from what is happening in Europe today where local residents wish to keep tourists out.
Colombians are curious about tourists and the places where they come from. Usually, language may be the only barrier to a good chat! Most Colombians speak only Spanish. However, if they are Colombians from the Capital City area (20% of the Country’s population live in and around the Capital city), their Spanish is very clear and well-enunciated. If you know something of the language, you will have no trouble following them.
The Colours of Colombia
Colombia is a country of vibrant colours. You see it everywhere! From brightly painted exteriors of many traditional homes to the people’s preferences to wear brightly coloured clothing, to its flowers and even to the myriad of brightly coloured birds. Incidentally, Colombia is the world’s premier birding destination in the world! We have more varieties of birds in Colombia than any other destination of the world. If you want to see the colours, you’ve got to come to Colombia!
