Bogotá the Capital City on the High Plateau
Is Bogota Worth Visiting?
The answer is a resounding, “Yes.” Why? The Colombian capital city has much to offer – from culture to Gastronomy to history to nature. The next question often is, “How many days are enough in Bogota?” We recommend at least three nights because there is a lot to see and do in and around Bogotá. Many tourists seem to think one day is enough. That is incorrect. You must give the city more time.
You can visit Bogotá at any time of the year, but be prepared for the rainiest country in the world. The average precipitation days for Bogota are 181 per annum. It would be advisable to pack a collapsible umbrella in your baggage. The driest months of the year (for those who want the least possibility of rain), are December and January – the average days of precipitation are 11 and 9 days respectively, for those months.
The altitude, at 8660 feet above mean sea level, is high enough for some tourists to take it easy on the first day of their visit, to get acclimatised to the altitude. The daily mean temperature for a whole year is 14.5º C in Bogotá. Statistically, January is the coldest month of the year with a mean minimum low of 7.6º C. Warm clothing may therefore be needed for most people.
