Travelling to the Indian Subcontinent
For the uninitiated traveller, planning a holiday to the Indian Subcontinent can be daunting. There is so much to see and do that most people wonder where they should start and what they should do. Ultimately, the bulk of tourists to the subcontinent, stick to the well-trodden path. The tried and tested tours.
The Golden Triangle
To initiate their tour of North India tourists most often stick to what is called the Golden Triangle – probably India’s most popular tour. It takes visitors to three North Indian cities: Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Delhi (we combine both New Delhi and Delhi). It is a city that has both the past and the present inextricably intertwined. Everyday Indians can be seen in their motorcycles and cars going about their daily chores and duties, quite oblivious to the history and monuments that surround them. They have become used to their heritage.
The tour shows off the capital city both Old and New Delhi, everyone’s must-see Taj Mahal and the pink city of Jaipur. It has become such a hackneyed tour that for most tour operators there is not a lot for them to do. It is a routine process to handle tourists in the cities. Agra for them, is just another city.
Yet, when you set eyes on the Taj for the first time, it is a goosebumps experience! There is not another monument like it in the world. The Indian Nobel Poet Laureate Rabindranath Tagore referred to it as, “a teardrop on the cheek of eternity”. It is a tomb. The place where the Empress Mumtaz Mahal and Emperor Shah Jehan rest side by side.
If you can schedule your trip to Agra on a full moon night, you are all set for a double treat: you can view the Taj both in daylight and in moonlight. A very special experience. While in Agra, one should not miss the Agra Fort where Aurangazeb imprisoned his father, Emperor Shah Jehan (creator of the Taj), for the last 8 years of his life.
The tour also covers the popular Rajasthani Pink City of Jaipur which completes the Golden Triangle of the three very interesting cities.
For most people, this will be their introduction to India: the Golden Triangle – Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
Another Interesting Itinerary
It is possible to combine the Golden Triangle Tour with other tours or extend the tour to other cities of interest in the region. Here below we give you another itinerary which extends the Golden Triangle Tour to Kajuraho and Varanasi. Many holiday-makers to India seem to want the extension.
The tour contains all the interesting sites of the Golden Triangle itinerary and then brings in the well-known temples of Khajuraho, as well as the Hindu holy city of Varanasi.

Special Interest Tours
Many tourists today, want to include Yoga and Meditation in their itineraries. That is also possible. We can include the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains into Itineraries and also include the city of Rishikesh on the banks of the Ganges.
South India
South India has a wealth of historical sites to offer. The South is well known for its temples. It is very much temple-country. There are several temples that are well over 1200 years old and continue to be used as temples to this day. The South is also very rich in culture. Carnatic Music and Dance is appreciated all over the world and are even taught in several universities in the USA.
